Alexandra Eala to Debut at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships
Sports

Alexandra Eala, one of the fastest-rising talents on the WTA Tour, will make her debut at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships next week, as confirmed by organizers.

The 20-year-old Filipina recently entered the World’s Top 40 and will be competing in Dubai against a star-studded field that includes 18 of the world’s top 20 players, such as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and last month’s Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina.

Originally ranked World No. 139 just a year ago, Eala, born in Quezon City, has significantly climbed up the rankings in recent weeks due to her impressive performances.

Her journey began in New Zealand, where she reached the semifinals in Auckland, followed by quarterfinal appearances in Manila and Abu Dhabi. Despite a loss in Doha to Tereza Valentova, Eala remains determined to showcase her skills at the Dubai tournament.

Running from February 15-21, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, now in its 26th edition, will once again gather the top players in the women's game. Eala will be among the elite players in the main draw of the WTA 1000 tournament, alongside renowned names like Sabalenka, Swiatek, Gauff, Andreeva, and others.

Despite her recent setback in Doha, Eala is eager to face the established leaders of the tour and aims for a breakthrough performance at the WTA 1000 level.

Her participation in Dubai adds to her already demanding early-season schedule, which included her debut at the Australian Open and a victory at the Kooyong Classic exhibition in Melbourne.

Following the women's event, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will host the ATP 500 men's tournament from February 23-28, offering two weeks of top-tier tennis in the emirate. Tickets for the championships are available for purchase on ticketmaster.ae and dubaidutyfreetennischampionships.com.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, organized by Dubai Duty Free and held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, promises an exciting showcase of world-class tennis.
